Desktop Publishing:
Desktop Publishing is a course designed to provide students opportunities to develop proficiency in using leading desktop publishing software in today’s graphic design industry. Students will learn to prepare newsletters, menus, CD covers, yearbook spreads, Playbooks, programs, interactive eBooks, online newspapers and more, practicing the basics of creativity, balance, design and layout. Units will include Adobe InDesign, open source software, and online desktop publishing applications. Projects will be Digital Media: Digital Media is a business/computer course, which will expose students to leading graphic design, animation, audio-editing and photo-editing software. Topics in graphics design will include basic graphics design, using color, working with type, and creating informative, interactive and innovative graphics. Units include Infographics (visualizations), Adobe Illustrator (illustration), Adobe Flash (animated game design), Adobe Photoshop (photo-editing), Audacity (music-mixing), and creating a mobile app. Projects will be real-world applications involving student choice and creativity. This course is helpful to students who are interested in continuing their education in graphic design-related fields. Grades 10, 11, 12 Emerging Technologies: Emerging Technologies is a course that exposes students to new and exciting digital ways to collaborate and share knowledge on the Internet. Students will learn how to use cell phones as instructional and learning tools. Blogs, Wikis, Google Docs, social networking, RSS content, social bookmarking and webcasts will be included in the course content. Digital storytelling in the form of online presentations, podcasts, tutorials, and Google Earth tour destinations will also be presented. Students will also create augmented reality experiences for mobile learning. Responsible, safe, and ethical Internet use and netiquette will be emphasized, including how to be good digital citizens. Projects will be real-world applications involving student choice and creativity. Students will learn to use and become familiar with 21st Century digital technologies that are becoming commonplace in K-12 and higher education institutions, and the workplace. Web Design: Web Page Design is a business/computer course designed to provide students opportunities to develop proficiency in developing web pages using HTML coding, Adobe Dreamweaver, Adobe Fireworks, open source software, and online website creators. Students will learn to prepare single web pages and multiple page web sites creating cascading style sheets, utilizing on-page, internal, and external links, and incorporating multimedia while practicing the basics of creativity, balance, design and layout. Students will also learn how to create a mobile (.mobi) site. Projects will be real-world applications involving student choice and creativity. This course is helpful to students who are interested in continuing their education in computer-related fields. Grades 10, 11, 12 |
